 Our Process

We are continuously investing in our facilities to improve our steelmaking capabilities and ensure the highest quality special steel for our customers.

Gerdau Special Steel Operations

Gerdau has special steel mills in Monroe, Michigan and Fort Smith, Arkansas that use recycled high quality scrap metal to produce SBQ steel bars that are consumed primarily by the automotive, heavy truck, agricultural and construction equipment, oil, gas, and energy markets. We have downstream facilities in Huntington, Indiana and Jackson, Michigan where additional finishing processes are performed to reach the specifications designated by our customers and ensure the exceptional quality of our products.

Our process starts with melting scrap in an electric arc furnace, then refining, degassing, casting, rolling and finishing. Technology is always evolving, so we are constantly investing in our facilities to ensure that we continue to produce quality products for our customers.
